NATURE OF THE PROJECT

Montréal Technopole is a huge project aimed at building a city of knowledge, creativity and innovation, developing all the city's science and technology assets and attracting new talent and new companies to the sector.

When it comes to the knowledge economy, Montréal has a number of key assets:

  • 4 world-class universities, two English-speaking and two French-speaking and 7 other higher educational institutions or schools
  • Over 200 public or private research centres
  • Over 170,000 students, nearly 10% of them from abroad
  • Nearly 200,000 workers in the aeronautics and aerospace, life sciences and information technology sectors alone
  • Over 3,000 cutting-edge establishments
  • International industry clusters

542 firms and organizations in the life sciences sector are spread across much of the region, many of them concentrated around certain large poles.

  • Downtown pole: concentration in health technologies; CHUM; MUHC Glen site and de la Montagne site; McGill University Life Sciences Complex; Quartier de la santé
  • Eastern pole: concentration in health technologies;Technopôle Angus
  • Côte-des-Neiges pole: concentration in health technologies and biotech; CHU Sainte-Justine hospital
